Bicyclist killed after being hit by 2 cars

EAST PATCHOGUE - Police say a bicyclist was killed after being hit by two cars last night in East Patchogue, one of which took off afterward.

The incident happened on Clinton Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. Police say 22-year-old Eric Dennis, a father of three, was crossing the street just blocks from his home when he was mowed down by a Jeep and thrown onto South Country Road.

The driver of the Jeep checked on the victim and ran to the car to call 911 after seeing that the bicyclist was still alive. That is when police say Dennis was hit again by a light-colored SUV, which took off from the scene.

Dennis was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he died a few hours later.

The driver of the Jeep has not been charged at this time. Anyone with information on the second driver is being asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
