WOODBURY - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone wants to remind residents to take proper precautions during Hurricane Sandy.

"This is a real storm and we need to take it seriously," Bellone said. "We advise people to not be complacent. This is the kind of storm that can surprise people and catch us off guard, and that's what we're trying to avoid here."

All Suffolk County parks will close at 6 p.m. today.

Emergency shelters are open at Sachem East High School, Hampton Bays High School and Brentwood High School.
