HAUPPAUGE - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone could soon be without a secretary after his longtime assistant wound up on the county's list of positions slated for layoffs.As News 12 Long Island has reported, Suffolk's cash crisis has forced the county to lay off 315 employees. Geraldine Compitello, who earns $80,000 annually as Bellone's executive assistant, is on the layoff list and is due to be cut on July 1. Bellone has already laid off his wife from the county's Parks Department but says he hopes to spare his secretary's job. His office says he cannot be expected to work without a secretary.
