HAUPPAUGE - Democratic Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone declared victory tonight in the race for Suffolk County executive.

Bellone squared off against Suffolk County Treasurer and Republican candidate Angie Carpenter. Bellone thanked everyone involved in helping him campaign.

Widely popular in his hometown of Babylon, the five-term supervisor touted his experience running a complex local government, balancing the budget and addressing citizens' concerns.

Carpenter's 18 years of experience in county government, including the 12 years she served as a legislator, was not enough to defeat Bellone. Carpenter thanked everyone for their hard work during her concession speech.
