BELLMORE - Officials say a Bellmore woman died last night after she was hit by a police car.

Investigators say Sherry Lang, 63, was walking at the corner of Merrick Road and Farmers Avenue shortly before midnight when she was struck. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The name of the Nassau County police officer who was driving the car was not released, but officials say he is from the 7th Precinct. The officer was treated for bruises to his knees.

Police say that weather may have been a factor in the accident but are not releasing further details.
