BAY SHORE - School is out, but some students are working toward a reading goal this summer at the YMCA Summer Camp in Bay Shore.

Many of the youngsters are taking part in a nationwide reading assessment program, where they are expected to read 100 books this summer.

YMCA co-director Sharde Lamneck says children that do not read over the summer vacation can lose up to two reading levels during the break.

About 1,500 children are expected to participate in the Bay Shore reading program this summer.
