WOODBURY - There is help available to veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Joseph Dwyer PTSD peer-support program was created in memory of Pfc. Joseph Dwyer, a Marine from Mount Sinai who suffered from the disorder until his death in 2008.

There are now groups at more than a dozen sites across Long Island where veterans with PTSD can talk to each other in an anonymous setting.

The medical industry has also stepped up. The Marines are now testing hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a means of physically changing the brain in order to deal with PTSD.

Military officials say nearly two dozen veterans commit suicide every day.
