PLAINEDGE - The community came together in Plainedge Saturday to remember Brian Moore, the NYPD detective from Long Island who was killed in the line of duty.

It marked the second annual Brian Moore Youth Baseball Tournament. There were 75 teams registered to play Saturday.

Moore's father threw the ceremonial first pitch, and the players and coaches wore NYPD caps to honor Moore and his family.

Moore's father, Ray, says his main mission now is to keep his son's memory alive.

"He was taken from us way too soon, at 25. I don't want to ever forget him, and I hope nobody else does," Ray Moore says.

The park where the tournament was played has been dedicated to Moore, and it's where he spent much of his childhood playing ball.

All of the proceeds from Saturday's event will go to the Brian Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides $10,000 to two Plainedge High School students.

As News 12 has reported, Moore was fatally shot while on duty in Queens in May of 2015. He was posthumously promoted to detective.
