BALDWIN HARBOR - A Baldwin Harbor soldier injured overseas several months ago has finally come home.

State police, FDNY Fire Riders, American Legion riders and other groups rode from JFK Airport to American Legion Post 246 where Pvt. Alex Murtha was met by family and friends who welcomed him home.

Murtha's right leg was severely injured during a suicide bomb attack in June. After seven surgeries, the 22-year-old made his long journey home from Afghanistan.

Murtha still needs more physical therapy but says he is determined to return to duty as soon as possible.

For now, he will be assigned to the Wounded Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
