Bahar Kaya seriously injured in crash on LIE at exit 57

Cops say Bahar Kaya was driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway at exit 57 when she was struck from behind. (2/15/13)

HAUPPAUGE - A woman has been critically injured in a car crash in Hauppauge.  

Police say Bahar Kaya was driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway at exit 57 when a teenager driving an SUV rear-ended her.

According to police, three additional vehicles sustained minor damage in a secondary collision. No one involved in the secondary crash was injured.

Kaya, 25, Port Jefferson Station, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. 

Kaya's sister, who was her only passenger, Nese Kaya, 22, of Port Jefferson Station, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both she and the teen driver are expected to be OK.

All five vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
