BABYLON - A Babylon High School student is recovering from MRSA.

Officials say all gyms, locker rooms and bathrooms in the district are being disinfected.

In a letter to parents, the Babylon School District says the student was diagnosed with the contagious staph infection. The student, who has not been indentified, is not seriously ill and is being treated at home with antibiotics. Doctors say MRSA is typically spread through skin-to-skin contact in hospitals, nursing homes, gyms, weight rooms, locker rooms and, less frequently, in classrooms. Cases can range from very mild to extremely severe.
