Attacked Babylon woman wants pit bull off streets

Yvonne Fleming says she was hospitalized for three days after a pit bull mauled her. (January 18, 2013)

BABYLON - A Babylon woman allegedly attacked by a pit bull is fighting to get the dog out of her neighborhood.

Yvonne Fleming says she was hospitalized for three days after a pit bull mauled her while she was speedwalking on Meade Avenue at about 5 a.m. on Monday. Neighbor Laura Carito-Quirk heard the screams, called 911 and ran outside to help.

Fleming says the pit bull's owner called for the dog and left Fleming bleeding in the street. Suffolk police say the pit bull's owner is denying that his dog was involved in the incident.

Fleming has filed a dangerous dog complaint and will go to court Wednesday.

Meanwhile, police and the Town of Babylon say they have no other complaints on file about the dog.
