SMITHTOWN - Baseball as it was played in its infancy is being brought back to life on Long Island.

The Atlantic Base Ball Club won its first world championship in 1864. Now, 150 years later, a new bunch of players brings old-time baseball back to life on summer weekends in Smithtown.

The Atlantic Base Ball Club plays the game as it was played in the 1800s. The players wear vintage uniforms, follow early rules and don’t even wear mitts. Everyone gets a nickname though – like Blackjack and Shakespeare.

“We try to keep it in the 1800 setting, talk the right words and just live it,” one of the players told News 12 Long Island.
