HICKSVILLE - A special agent K-9 named Kara has been assigned to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Long Island.

Kara, a golden Labrador, is not your typical bomb-sniffing dog.  She's a trained Search Enhanced Evidence K-9 (SEEK) dog that can work off her leash. There are only nine ATF SEEK dogs in the country.

They are trained to sit when they find one of 19,000 mixtures of explosives.

The 1 ½-year-old pup will be working on Long Island, New York City or wherever she's needed for many years.

Kara is trained to search fields, playgrounds, offices, homes and malls. When she's done, she gets to go home with her handler and play with her big sister Oreo, a non-working dog.
