Army mom stops by for son's show-and-tell in Centereach

CENTEREACH - Army Spc. Linda Velez stopped by her son's school in Centereach today to teach students about life in Afghanistan.

Velez, who is currently stationed in Afghanistan, has been in the U.S. Army for five years and has served a tour in Iraq. Velez showed her son, Joel Velez, and his fellow classmates what life is like in the country and how kids are educated there."The kids there will go to school six days a week, but they will only have a teacher for three days," says Velez. "They sit there quietly doing their school work."

Velez is expected to return to Afghanistan later this week.
