MANHATTAN - Former Congressman Anthony Weiner has announced he is running for New York City mayor.

Weiner announced his candidacy overnight in a YouTube video.

Weiner said, "I made some big mistakes and I know I let a lot of people down, but I also learned some tough lessons. I'm running for mayor because I've been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it my entire life."

The Democrat is officially in the running for the September primary.

Weiner's comeback to politics comes just two years after a series of raunchy tweets became public.

Weiner enters a crowded field of candidates, but is said to have over $4 million in campaign funds.
