FREEPORT - A Freeport man was arraigned after police found 13 dead pit bulls and dog fighting equipment in a burning garage.

Anthony Reddick, 53, faces 18 misdemeanor and felony animal fighting charges.

Investigators responded to the fire on Friday afternoon and found the dead dogs. They also found three pit bulls that were still alive and equipment normally used to train dogs to fight.

Officials say Reddick fled the scene when the fire broke out.

The assistant district attorney told the judge that Reddick was convicted of dog fighting charges in both 1998 and 2001. However, his attorney says Reddick denies all of the latest allegations.

He is due back in court on March 5.
