Anthony Oddone sentenced to time served after plea deal in death of off-duty Suffolk corrections officer Andrew Reister

FARMINGVILLE - A Farmingville man was sentenced today to time served in the death of an off-duty Suffolk corrections officer in 2008.

Anthony Oddone was sentenced to 5 years, 4 months and 16 days, which amounts to the time he has already served.

Officials say Oddone put 40-year-old Andrew Reister, who was working as a bouncer, in a deadly chokehold at the Southampton Publik House.

Oddone, who accepted a plea deal in the case, had a chance to speak directly to the Reister family in court, but he chose to remain silent.

“A person can feel remorse internally and they can express it the way they choose to express it,” said Oddone’s attorney.

Reister’s widow, Stacy, read a letter from their 10-year-old daughter in court: “I wish you died instead of daddy, I wish you were never born."

Oddone's attorney says his client is moving on with his life while working at a sports rehab center in Manhattan and attending school.  He is subject to post-release supervision for the next five years.

Oddone was originally sentenced to 17 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree manslaughter in 2009. Late last year, an appeals court threw out the conviction on a technicality.
