WOODBURY - Some Nassau County workers may be out of a job if County Executive Ed Mangano goes forward with another round of layoffs.
News 12 Long Island obtained a copy of a confidential memo sent from Mangano to all department heads this morning. The memo asks the department heads to prepare a list by Friday of positions to cut. Mangano's goal is to cut 3 to 5 percent in 2012 salary expenses. In the memo, Mangano points fingers at Democrats in the Legislature. He claims the layoffs are necessary because the Democrats won't approve $40 million in borrowing to pay back tax refunds.
Since taking office, Mangano has laid off hundreds of county workers. Jerry Larichuitta, the head of the county's biggest union, says services are already decimated.
