FIRE ISLAND - Another great white shark was sighted just off Long Island’s South Shore over the weekend.

The shark was caught by Greg Grodecki, of Lindenhurst, and his amateur shark fishing friends, just 15 miles south of Fire Island.

“He was very aggressive. He hit the boat and ate the propeller,” Grodecki told News 12.

Grodecki’s Great White encounter is the third in our area over the past few days. The others were spotted off of Rockaway Beach and the shores of southern New Jersey.

“It’s normal to see sharks feeding right off our shores,” said Joe Yaiullo of the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center. “You’d be surprised, if you had an aerial view of the beaches, how close sharks are at all times…but we're not on the menu.”
