WOODBURY - Officials say nearly 80 animals rescued from the tornado-ravaged south are now on Long Island.

The animals arrived at North Shore Animal League this morning.

North Shore's emergency rescue teams went to Alabama to help relieve the overcrowding.

The tornadoes have caused hundreds of animals to be abandoned or lost.

The group of rescued animals includes 25 dogs, 30 puppies and 23 kittens.

All of the animals will soon be up for adoption.
