AMITYVILLE - The Village of Amityville voted unanimously tonight to pass its 2011-2012 budget, which includes a tax hike and big spending cuts.

The five-member board says the $14.5 million plan will mean a 9.7-percent tax hike, which was brought down from a proposed 27-percent increase. The board says it cut nearly $1 million in expenses to make the reduction.

Mayor Peter Imbert also renegotiated contracts with police and other village employees. He says open positions won't be filled unless deemed necessary.

The changes go into effect June 1.
