WOODBURY - ? American Airlines has canceled more than 300 flights across the country in the past few days due to what they are calling a "pilot sickout." The airline says it is cutting its flights by 1 to 2 percent through October.
Part of the reason is because many pilots are calling in sick, causing a staff shortage, according to the airline.
The airline announced Tuesday that 11,000 mechanics and ground workers would be getting pink slips.
American Airlines says it has seen an increase in flight cancellations since early this month, when a federal bankruptcy judge allowed the company to impose new pay and working rules on pilots.
