Amanda Honold, seriously injured in car crash 6 years ago, graduates from Stony Brook University
STONY BROOK - Stony Brook University held its commencement for its Class of 2014, which included one student who finished school after nearly dying in a car accident.
Amanda Honold, 27, had to be cut out of her car with the Jaws of Life after a car accident six years ago. Stony Brook University Hospital trauma surgeon Dr. Eric Shapiro says her vital signs were poor and that she was in a coma when she was brought in. Honold's doctors say she hovered near death for weeks, but eventually managed to recover.
Honold's wish was to finish her Italian studies degree at Stony Brook. She managed to complete her degree this year, after six years in rehab and lots of help and support from her mother.
