Alleged drunken driver Gilbert Zayas accused of fleeing, running over cop’s foot

EAST ISLIP - Officials say a Suffolk police officer is recovering today after an alleged drunken driver ran over her foot while trying to get away from police.

Police tell us the officer tried to stop Gilbert Zayas on Carleton Avenue in East Islip last night.

Police say the officer got into a brief chase with Zayas after he refused to pull over.

When the Brentwood man finally stopped, he was arrested for DWI.

According to Newsday, Zayas drove over the officer's foot while she was trying to arrest him.
