Advocates rally in Hicksville for NY DREAM Act in New York budget

HICKSVILLE - Immigration advocates rallied today in Hicksville to call on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to add the New York DREAM Act bill into this year's final budget.

The legislation is designed to help undocumented students apply for financial aid through the New York State Tuition Assistance Program.

The New York DREAM Act legislation passed in the Assembly but failed to pass in the Senate by two votes. Advocates say Gov. Cuomo has the power to make dreams come true for undocumented students like 24-year-old Angel Reyes, who attends Nassau Community College.

“I’m here because I love this country,” said Reyes, who attended the rally. “This country allows me to dream and all students should follow their dreams.”
