Adalberto Ariel Guzman convicted in murder of mom, toddler

The charges are in connection with the murders of Vanessa Argueta, 19, and her son Diego Torres, 2, in Central Islip in February of 2010.

CENTRAL ISLIP - After three weeks of trial, a jury has convicted an MS-13 gang member in the execution-style murder of a mom and toddler.

Adalberto Ariel Guzman, also known as Gringo, was convicted on federal criminal charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder and firearms offense.

The charges are in connection with the murders of Vanessa Argueta, 19, and her son Diego Torres, 2, in Central Islip in February of 2010.

The bodies of Argueta and Torres were found in a secluded wooded area in Central Islip. Officials say Argueta had been shot in the head and chest, and Torres had been shot in the head.

Officials say Guzman fired the fatal shots and fled with two of his co-conspirators to El Salvador.

Guzman is facing a sentence of life in prison when he sentenced on Jan. 9, 2014.
