AAA: More people driving, flying this holiday weekend

Higher gas prices, increased airfares and higher hotel costs are not keeping people from traveling this holiday weekend. According to AAA, 35 million people nationwide

DIX HILLS - Higher gas prices, increased airfares and higher hotel costs are not keeping people from traveling this holiday weekend.

According to AAA, 35 million people nationwide will be driving or flying 50 miles or more this weekend, which is up slightly compared to last year when gas prices were $1 cheaper per gallon.

If you're driving to your destination, the average price for a gallon of regular gas on Long Island is now $4.12. Many residents say they will still travel, but cut back on spending in other ways.

For those who opt not to drive, the Long Island Rail Road will be providing extra train service from the city throughout the weekend.
