WOODBURY - AAA says Labor Day weekend is expected to be the busiest for traffic since 2008.

Gas prices are at the lowest they have been on the holiday weekend in four years, averaging $3.73 on Long Island.

Authorities in Nassau and Suffolk counties say they will have extra patrols in place on the roads and in the water through Monday in an effort to thwart drinking and driving.

Despite some rain in the forecast, residents took to the beaches to squeeze in the last bit of summer before fall weather sets in.

Temperatures on Labor Day are expected to be in the low 80s with the possibility of a thunderstorm.
