BETHPAGE - A brush fire ripped across part of Bethpage State Park this afternoon.

Plumes of thick white smoke could be seen bellowing in the air above the densely wooded area.

State park officials say the flames were sparked just west of the world famous Bethpage Black golf course, and north of the green course.

Nine departments were called to the scene.

It's still unclear what sparked the fire. News 12 meteorologists say that the past few weeks have been extremely dry.
