FARMINGDALE - Hundreds of people came together in Farmingdale today to pay their last respects to a local Sept. 11 first responder.

The sound of bagpipes filled the air this morning as Steven Mosiello's flag-draped coffin was carried into St. Kilian's Roman Catholic Church.

The retired 58-year-old city fire marshal from Massapequa died Friday after battling esophageal cancer for two years. He was diagnosed with the illness in 2009 after 23 years with the FDNY.

Today, colleagues remembered Mosiello as an amazing man and firefighter.

"He was a tower of strength before the Trade Center, and he was more of a tower of strength after the Trade Center," says FDNY Chief of Department Edward Kildoff.
