WESTBURY - An 85-year-old woman was carjacked at knifepoint in a Wal-Mart parking lot and then forced to withdraw money from her bank account, and a manhunt is now underway for the suspect.

Nassau police say a man armed with a large knife approached the victim in front of the store on Old Country Road in Westbury. Detectives say he pushed her into her vehicle, then took her on a 30-minute drive to a Chase bank in Elmont.

There, the suspect demanded that the victim use her ATM card and enter her PIN to withdraw money, police say.

The suspect was last seen on Dutch Broadway near Audrey Avenue, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The woman received injuries to her upper body that are not considered life-threatening. After the ordeal, police say the woman drove herself to the 5th Precinct and gave detectives details and a good description of the suspect.

Police have released a sketch of the suspect. He's described as a black man in his 20s who stands about 6 feet tall and has a thin build.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
