5th death blamed on snow removal following blizzard

A 73-year-old man died of a heart attack in Southold. (February 14, 2013)

SOUTHOLD - A retired Southold police officer is the fifth Suffolk man to die removing record snow following the blizzard.

Fred Fiedler, 73, was shoveling outside his home on Reydon Drive on Saturday when he suffered a heart attack, according to Newsday.

Three men from Northport and one from Selden also died trying to remove heavy wet snow.
