5 Nassau tax preparers accused of fraud

ROOSEVELT - Five tax preparers from Nassau County are facing fraud charges today in two separate cases. Police say one of the suspects, Sherrece Durrant-Gardner, of Hempstead, paid inmates in a New York jail for their personal information. She then allegedly used the information to prepare false personal income tax returns and collect money.Durrant-Gardner worked for Jackson-Hewitt in Roosevelt, but investigators say the company may not have known about the alleged scam.Police say Durrant-Gardner was assisted by two co-workers, Donna Giordano and Marchia Purdie.Brian Kelly, of Lake Grove, and John Ferolito, of Westbury, were also arrested this morning for allegedly preparing false returns at R&G Brenner.
