5 men charged in string of armed robberies

WOODBURY - A group of five young men were charged today in a string of violent armed robberies around Suffolk County. The men, who range in age from 16 to 27 years old, are accused of robbing a pharmacy, a jewelry shop and several other businesses in western Suffolk. They were formally indicted on multiple counts of first-degree robbery and criminal weapon possession. The men allegedly carried out the robberies beginning in December of last year, right up until earlier this month. Police say four weapons were found at the home of one of the suspects, and they have confirmed that two of the weapons were used in the robberies.Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says he suspects gang activity is at play.To watch a press conference about the arrests, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select the 'iO Extra' tab.
