WOODBURY - Police say five people had to be rescued after their boats collided off the Shinnecock Canal.

The Coast Guard says the incident happened about 17 miles south of Shinnecock yesterday.

According to officials, they received a call from one fishing boat saying it collided with another. One person was thrown in the water.

Officials say one of the boats sank and another took on water. A boat heard the radio call for help and helped five victims until the Coast Guard showed up, officials say.

No one was seriously hurt.
