4 suspects in Manhasset jewelry heist arraigned

MANHASSET - Four men from Brooklyn have been arraigned today on first-degree robbery charges for allegedly holding up a Manhasset jewelry store at gunpoint yesterday. Police say the suspects walked into London Jewelers wearing bandannas over their faces and carrying guns and sledgehammers. They allegedly ordered all 13 employees and one customer at the store to drop to the ground. Then, investigators say the robbers smashed several glass cases and took off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of Rolex watches and other jewelry. No one was hurt in the heist. The suspects took off from the scene in a getaway car, prompting a chase involving cruisers, a helicopter, and canine and mounted units. Police say the men crashed their Cadillac Escalade near exit 33 on the Long Island Expressway and then took off on foot. Two of the suspects were apprehended at the Lake Success Country Club, while the other two were arrested by the NYPD near Queens. Police say at least one robber remains at large.
