BELLMORE - A terrifying home invasion yesterday in Bellmore sparked a police chase and manhunt that forced schools into lockdown and led to the arrests of four suspects.

Police say the incident began at around 9 a.m. when four suspects burst into the home of Ghulam Sumra on Bellmore Avenue.

"I was sleeping," says Sumra. "All of the sudden, he came and put a knife to my neck."

Authorities say the suspects proceeded to tie up Sumra and three others in the house. They then allegedly stole more than $7,000 before speeding away, with police on their tail.

During the chase, two of the suspects bailed from the vehicle and were quickly apprehended. The driver of the car was cornered at a car dealership on Sunrise Highway.

The fourth suspect was temporarily able to elude capture, prompting the lockdown of schools in Wantagh, Levittown, Merrick and Seaford, according to officials.

Police say the last suspect was finally captured while attempting to make a getaway in a taxi on the Southern State Parkway.

All four of the suspects are from Brooklyn.

A total of six people were transported to the hospital, including three residents of the home that was robbed and two of the suspects. Another person injured was a police officer. To watch Chopper 12 footage of the Bellmore police pursuit, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
