343 flags on Smithtown lawn honor firefighters lost on 9/11

A Smithtown couple has created a touching tribute to the firefighters lost in the Sept. 11 attacks.

SMITHTOWN - A Smithtown couple has created a touching tribute to the firefighters lost in the Sept. 11 attacks.

A total of 343 flags have been placed on the front lawn of Joseph and Marceline Bachert's home. Each flag represents a firefighter killed in the attacks.

Joseph Bachert is a retired New York City firefighter who was hurt on Sept. 11.

Marceline Bachert says she planted the flags to help raise awareness among young people.
