ELMONT - Three Long Island teens have been named finalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search.

The finalists include Jessica Huang, of Jericho High School, Rachel Mashal, of John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore and Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, of Elmont Memorial High School.

Huang's project involves research into "fluid intelligence," or a person's ability to reason through problems.

Uwamanzu-Nna is working on a way to prevent future oil spills.

"I can't believe we're having this conversation, I'm so excited," she told News 12 Long Island.

Mashal is researching how manipulating genetics and diet can prevent drug addiction.

Huang will be going to Harvard next year. The other finalists are still deciding on their colleges.

All 40 finalists will travel to Washington, D.C. in March to compete for a total of more than $1 million in awards.
