HAUPPAUGE - Three people were injured, one of them seriously, in a crash in Hauppauge Saturday.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Nesconset Highway and Veterans Highway. Witnesses told police that a woman driving a red Prius ran a red light and crashed into another car.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening, but a passenger in one of the vehicles was seriously hurt.

Police say the Prius driver was cited for driving without a license.

Lanes in the area were shut down for hours as police investigating and the scene was cleared.
