HUNTINGTON - A 232-year-old church in Huntington is getting a $1 million makeover.

The Old First Presbyterian Church is the only surviving public building from the Colonial period in the Town of Huntington.

Organizers say work to renovate the building is about two-thirds of the way complete.

"Everything is being carefully refinished and repaired and restored and only what's really bad has to be replaced," says John Collins, the building committee chairman.

Collins say more than 80 percent of the building will be in its original form when all the work is completed.

"We are being good custodians and stewards of a very important landmark building," says Collins.

Organizers hope to also fix the sidewalks, parking lot and steps in front of the sanctuary.
