GARDEN CITY - Police have released video of the thieves who dressed up as ATM repairmen and installed a skimming device at four Nassau supermarkets.

Police say two suspects planted the devices at King Kullen stores in Garden City Park, Franklin Square, Rockville Centre and Massapequa Park between Aug. 20 and Sept. 8.

Detective Sgt. Richard Harasym called their operation "sophisticated" and said that the suspects must know the inner workings of ATMs.

"They appear to access the ATM with a key that they had with them. They opened up the ATM as if they were servicing it," says Harasym.

Store security video captured the duo in action dressed in authentic NCR technician uniforms and fake IDs. NCR manufactures ATMs and software.

The skimming devices give the thieves access to debit and credit card information in order to steal people's money.

Authorities say King Kullen discovered the scheme when a customer reported money missing from his account. Police say NCR reviewed the surveillance video and confirmed the men caught on videotape are not NCR employees.

King Kullen says they have launched an ATM security overhaul, and they are assisting with the investigation. Police say the suspects may be involved in similar cases across the tri-state area.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the skimming scheme to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
