MANORVILLE - Two Long Island skydivers were rescued last night following a tandem jump at Skydive Long Island in Calverton. Strong, sudden winds blew a first-time jumper and her veteran tandem partner into a tree near Swan Lake Golf Course in Manorville. The two hung 20 feet in the air in their harnesses for about a half-hour.Skydive Long Island owner Ray Maynard says he's never seen the weather change so quickly."The wind went from 10 mph to 50 in a split second," he says.The two skydivers weren't hurt in the incident.
