2 more Valley Stream homeowners claim damage by 'blue ice'

VALLEY STREAM - Two more Valley Stream homeowners have come forward with claims 'blue ice,' or frozen human waste from airplanes, has fallen onto their roofs.

Norman Weissman, one of the two homeowners, says the damage occurred on Sept. 9, the same day two homeowners who previously came forward also noticed the damage. All four homes are within a mile-and-a-half of each other and in a line to JFK International Airport.

A professor of aviation at Farmingdale State College says accidental leaks of blue ice from the bathroom of an airplane can happen.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says two planes did fly over Valley Stream the morning of Sept. 9 but that a check of those airplanes revealed no defects. Therefore, the FAA cannot determine if the damage was caused by blue ice.

The homeowners will have to seek reimbursement from their insurances companies to repair their roofs.
