2 arrested in Roosevelt attack; 1 suspect at large

ROOSEVELT - Police arrested two Roosevelt residents for attempted murder and a slew of other charges after they allegedly beat, sexually assaulted and robbed a woman, then tied her up and left her for dead in the woods with a bag on her head. The Nassau Special Victims Squad has arrested Kenneth Bass, 53, and Julia Lopez, 37. Police say a third suspect in the brutal attack remains at large. Investigators say that about two weeks ago, the three suspects attacked their 46-year-old victim at a home in Roosevelt. Police say the attack started when the suspects accused the woman of owing them money. When she said she didn't have anything to give them, cops say the suspects severely beat her, performed a sex act upon her and stole her handbag and cell phone. Police say the trio then put a plastic bag around the victim's head, tied her hands and feet and dumped her body into a wooded area behind Henry Street. The woman was able to free herself and scream for help. She was taken to the hospital, where she is still recovering from her injuries.Bass and Lopez are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow on charges that include attempted murder, rape, assault and kidnapping. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-224-TIPS.
