2 alleged gang members charged in fatal shootings

YAPHANK - Investigators say two Crips gang members have been charged in the murders of two Long Islanders in separate shootings.

Prosecutors say Reginald Ross, 33, and 21-year-old Luis Cherry shot and killed John Williams while he was sitting in his car outside of his Holbrook home back in October.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says that Williams was killed because his friend owed drug money to Ross. They say Ross killed Williams with the hopes of killing his friend at the funeral.

This morning, Ross was also charged with killing Raymond Hirt, of Mastic Beach.

Investigators say Hirt was gunned down while sitting in his car at a Lake Ronkonkoma construction site in May.

Spota says Ross got stuck in construction traffic and had an argument with Hirt two weeks prior to killing him.

Officials say Ross and Cherry are being held without bail.
