12-year-old charged with arson in Hempstead fire

A 12-year-old boy is facing arson charges for allegedly setting a fire in Hempstead.

The flames were extinguished and no one was injured.

HEMPSTEAD - A 12-year-old boy is facing arson charges for allegedly setting a fire in Hempstead.

Police say the boy was playing with a plumber's torch in a backyard on Union Place Friday night.

The boy set a detached garage on fire, police say. The garage was fully engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived.

The flames were extinguished and no one was injured.

The 12-year-old is being charged with fourth-degree arson as a juvenile. He wasn't identified due to his age.
