10th Assembly District race heats up

HUNTINGTON - A pair of new candidates are vying for the 10th Assembly District seat left open after longtime Assemblyman James Conte died last week. The candidates include Joe Dujmic (D) and Chad Lupinacci (R), both of whom are attorneys, but have never run for office. Lupinacci says he is uniquely qualified, having worked for Conte and serving nine years on the South Huntington School Board. However, Dujmic says his experience working with Suffolk County budget proposals gives him the edge. Conte spent much of his career trying to improve education and the environment, but some voters say taxes and job growth are critical this time around.Island Vote 2012 Complete SeriesAssemblyman Conte dies at 53
