RIVERHEAD - Ten people were indicted Tuesday for allegedly stealing $1 million from a program that helped Sandy victims.

After the October 2012 storm, the federal government gave food stamp recipients 50 percent more money. New York's attorney general says seven of the suspects traded those benefits for cash at the Mastic Supermarket Corp. in Mastic.

The store's owners and one employee allegedly gave the seven suspects half the money on a SNAP card and the other half in cash.

The investigation lasted 2 1/2 years and prosecutors say $1 million was stolen during that time.
